Nordplus Junior “HCL” activities programme in Livani, Latvia 12/05-18/05, 2013

Every day we talk with students about a great time we had in Livani. Thank you folks one more time.

So our trip started on Sunday: we arrived to Livani in the afternoon and spent the rest time in families. On Monday students from Livani secondary school met us in front of the aschool singing traditional greeting song, then we had an excursion around the school. The school is very big, it has two stadiums and three sport buildings. This year about 500 students attend this school. Latvian friends showed us a short dance performance that won the first prize in annual aerobic competition.  In the afternoon we went outside to make friendship boats and Nordplus flag. We also celebrated Gintares’ and Alex’s birthdays. Folklore group Ceirutes joined us and taught  some traditional Latvian songs and dances. Then we had a picnic.

On Tuesday we visited Livani glass museum, had ceramics and made flowers from socks. We also had a short photo session.

On Wednesday we visited Liepkalni town where we had a trip by Viking boat down to Dauguva river. Then we watch how traditional bread is made and had bread degustation. In the afternoon we traveled to Skriveri Saldumini factory where we made traditional candies “Gotinas”.

On Thursday we had the longest day and night. So early in the morning we had floorball tournament, then settlers tournament. In the evening we had a party and stayed at school for all night.

On Friday we had a chance to watch Bell celebrations for the 9th and 12th forms, they had a very nice concert.

On Saturday we left Livani with tears in our eyes hoping to meet our friends someday again.

9 May- Europe Day

Europe week is celebrated in Grigiškės Šviesos  gymnasium every year. This year we had lots of fun to do . First of all, we made nice posters about each European country and presented them to all school. Then, we played a fantastic game called Treasure Hunt. So we had to answer the questions in different languages (Russian, English, German and French) that helped us to find a treasure at school. On the ninth of May we played one of the most popular European game called Bingo. Students from grades 10 to 12 had to participate in the competition about European Union.

St Casimir’s Fair in Lithuania

St Casimir’s Fair is a large annual folk art and craft fair in Lithuania and in our school as well. The fair is traditionally held on the first Sunday of March. This year we decided to visit the fair of Grigiskes nursery kindergarten “Rugelis”. We had a great time there and spend all our money buying goods such as cookies, sweets, homemade bread and herb tea. We also bought some pottery, handmade crafts. We danced and sang with small children together.

April in LT

Usually April in our school starts with the planting of flowers in our garden. Each class has its own place next to the school to take care of it. This year our task was to plant small bushes and weed our old flower garden.DSC08113 DSC08114 DSC08116
